Eliza Turton

Master of Dance Movement Therapy Student
Auckland Regional Centre

Eliza is in her final year of studying a Master of Dance/Movement Therapy (DMT) at the University of Auckland. She grew up in small-town Queensland, and has been dancing since the age of five. Looking toward a career as a contemporary dancer, Eliza completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance Performance) at Queensland University of Technology in 2020. She received the Vice Chancellor’s Scholarship for Elite Visual and Performing Arts worth $30,000 to study this degree. During covid-19, when no performance opportunities were available, Eliza discovered dance movement therapy.

Having always been involved in the community, and with the desire to make arts accessible, she felt she had found her calling. Eliza moved to Auckland in 2022 to begin her Masters. During her studies, Eliza has been interested in working alongside a range of populations, with a special interest in exploring the connection between different creative arts therapies. She used to feel quite uncomfortable with singing and playing instruments, but now enjoys music outside of perfection. Eliza certainly isn’t a musician, but does have a love for the enjoyment and power of music.

In her free time, Eliza likes to dance, explore Auckland, and participate in some very average karaoke at home with her flatmates.
